PRIMARY Spotlight: Hylux Founder Lamar Letts

Did you know potassium and magnesium are two common nutritional deficiencies in the US? The NIH shared that most diets in the US provide less than the recommended amounts of magnesium and potassium. These nutrition deficiencies can be particularly devastating for women, and minority and at-risk communities.

PRIMARY member Lamar Letts is the founder of Hylux, a health water addressing those deficiencies. A heart injury ended his career as a track athlete as he found out he was suffering from a lack of varying nutrients.

According to Letts, potassium and magnesium are important for maintaining proper heart function, keeping consistent energy levels, avoiding brain fog/general fatigue, and more.

We sat down with Letts to learn more about Hylux, which launched in 2017, and how he found a home at PRIMARY.

What is Hylux and how many products do you have?

Hylux is a health water that addressed the nutrient deficiencies I was facing; as well as the most common nutritional deficiencies in the U.S. We have 4 flavors of enhanced water - pomegranate raspberry, strawberry kiwi, red dragon fruit, and strawberry watermelon - and also create customized aluminum water bottles.

Who is your target audience, and have you worked with any notable clients?

Our core customers are men and women looking to make small health changes that can create big differences in their lives. We are sold on Amazon and in WH Smith across Europe. We've also worked with NFL players like Allen Robinson and NBA players like Jason Terry.

When starting to transition to office space, what were some of your non-negotiables?

A peaceful environment. A clear mind is important for productivity!

How long did it take you to land at PRIMARY?

Luckily, it was my first choice when looking for office space. I did a tour and knew that it was for me.

What were the key amenities that drew you to the space?

24/7 access. The beverage business can have unpredictable hours sometimes, so being able to come in as early or as late as I need was important.

Has being at a coworking space opened up more business opportunities for Hylux vs working from home or having traditional office space?

Yes, it put me in contact with great people.

What are you looking forward to in 2024 for Hylux?

We are expanding into new countries and recently got Chinese, French, and Swedish translations done for the label.
