How To Have a European August on NYC Time and Budget

The time has come – OOOs are on, you’re trying to work hard but no one is responding, and most of your European contacts are jetting off for an entire month. Toto, these people are not in NYC like we are.

On top of that, entrepreneurs and small business owners aren’t exactly known for taking time off or truly relaxing. However, it’s said that time off can replenish creativity, relieve stress, and ignite inspiration.

It’s the last month to take advantage of those summer Fridays, and we encourage you to do so. If the Hamptons aren’t for you, these three small towns are also three hours outside of the city and offer an escape from the hustle and bustle.

Tannersville, NY

Nestled in The Catskill mountains, about 2.5 hours north of the city and 30 min south of Albany, is The Painted Village in the Sky, also called Tannersville. It’s in the town of Hunter, where in the winter you ski the days away. In the summer though, it’s just as magical. On your way out, don’t forget to stop at Moonlight Flower Farm to grab some fresh blooms to brighten up your apartment!

Stay:

Hotel Lilien

A new addition to the town, Hotel Lilien is an 1890s estate turned boutique hotel. It features the original wood-paneled cocktail bar and library, and the restaurant with outdoor seating was reimagined by San Francisco design shop Field Theory. In the summer enjoy lounging by the pool, and in the winter, take advantage of the close proximity to Hunter Mountain.

Scribner’s

Created for the new generation of urban explorers, Scribner’s Lodge boasts guest rooms, a restaurant, garden, fitness room, and a barrel sauna. During the summer, enjoy the pool with views of Hunter Mountain.

Hotel Mountain Brook

Tucked away in town, this boutique resort is the perfect escape. Close enough to take a stroll to town, yet far enough away to feel like you’re miles deep in the woods. After your mountain adventures, head to the Choose Your Own Adventure Room to pick a board game, movie, or play shuffleboard.
